Visit the Clear Creek History Park
This park includes several buildings that were rescued from the mountains near Golden. The collection includes two ranch cabins, a barn, a blacksmith shop, and a one room school. Living history interpreters are often on-hand, demonstrating pioneer skills and inviting you to participate in making ice cream, feeding chickens, or making a straw mattress. Even when actors are not on hand, the park makes a lovely place to stroll.

Tour the Astor House
The Astor House is one of the older structures in Golden, having opened in 1867. During the years that the territorial legislature met in Golden, many of the legislators boarded at the Astor House. It now serves as a museum, with the hotel rooms set up to show how a legislator might have lived and full of interesting artifacts, such as a stereoscope and a piano that the guests would have used for entertainment, and the kitchen is stocked with antique food preparation tools. The Astor House presents a very popular series of "teas" featuring performances or lectures and, yes, a yummy high tea.

Visit the Golden History Center
This Museum was started in the 1930s and has been collecting and interpreting interesting Golden artifacts ever since. It's a good place to learn about the Indians who occupied this area prior to European settlement. They also have nice displays on domestic life of the pioneers, ranching, mining, antique guns, and many of Golden's historic businesses.
-
Walk through the three historic districts, our historic downtown, and the CSM campus
Two blocks west of the downtown shopping district is the Colorado School of Mines. The CSM campus is a pleasant place for a stroll, with hundred-year-old trees and equally old buildings abounding.
-
Read the signs on the Washington Avenue bridge
The Washington Avenue bridge is a destination of its own. Wide pedestrian walkways on either side are separated from motor vehicles. The pedestrian areas offer tables and chairs, to allow people to enjoy one of the best views in town. It's a great place to drink coffee or eat ice cream. Interesting signs line the bridge, with photos and text telling the history of the Golden area. Changing colored lights illuminate the bridge at night, making it pretty both day and night!

Check out the mural on the Foss building
The mural on the south side of the Foss Building is relatively new to downtown Golden. It was painted by artist Robert Dafford and depicts a number of places and people from Golden's past, including Buffalo Bill and members of the Coors family.
-
Visit the Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave
Almost a hundred years after his death, the showman Buffalo Bill still exerts a sense of romance about the old west. This museum exhibits his show posters, costumes, and tells of his long and colorful life. The museum is west of Golden proper. Follow the Lariat Trail (19th Street) up the scenic winding road to the top of the mountain.

The Ronzio collection is comprised of approximately 350 photographs. The collection includes the first laws published in Golden for the Colorado Territory. It is considered one of the more comprehensive photographic collections of the area of Golden and this part of Jefferson County.
