Golden Visitors Center

The Golden Visitors Center, located right on our principle thoroughfare, Washington Avenue, is the best place to start a visit to Golden.  The Center is staffed with volunteers who love Golden and want to share it with visitors.  They can provide maps, brochures, and recommendations.

Golden has museums to appeal to history-lovers, art aficionados, quilters, rock hounds, mountaineers, and dinosaur-lovers.


Golden celebrates art in several forms.  We are the home of Foothills Art Center, a nationally-recognized museum showing several juried shows every year.  Our historic downtown also has highly regarded galleries, as well as an outstanding public art collection.

Walking Tours

Golden has a very walkable downtown, with things well worth seeing at foot pace.  The Walking Tours section outlines walking tours for public art, the Historic Downtown, the School of Mines campus, the paths along Clear Creek, and three residential historic districts.


Our stores run the gamut, from high style boutiques to high tech outdoor outfitters to big box stores.  Use our shopping guide to find what you need by location or by type of merchandise.


Golden has an excellent range of restaurants, from fast food to very elegant and everything in between.  Our ethnic offerings include Thai, Sushi, Venezuelan, Latin, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, and Himalayan.  We also have a number of bars and coffee shops.  You can check our restaurants either by location or by type of cuisine.

Theater and Film

Golden has two professional theaters, two movie festivals, and a summer movie series.  Learn all about them.

Clear Creek

Clear Creek is the reason Golden is on the map.  It provided early settlers with drinking water, industrial power, irrigation, and a canyon route to get to the minerals in the mountains.  Today it still provides drinking water and also supports downtown recreation.  Learn more about the Creek's role in Golden history and things to do there today.

The Mountains

Golden is surrounded by mountains and they supply not only beauty but lots of recreational options.  Learn about hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, hang gliding, and scenic drives.

Historic Downtown

Golden's Historic Downtown is a great place for a pedestrian-friendly vacation.  It has two first class hotels, several bed and breakfasts, an RV park, several museums, a recreation center, more than two dozen restaurants, and three dozen shops...all within easy walking distance.


Golden has more than 20 miles of trails within the city limits and is surrounded by thousands of acres of Open Space.  From a leisurely amble on flat walkways by the creek by step, challenging mountain trails, we can satisfy your hiking urges!


People come from far and wide to cycle in Golden.  Denver-area road bikers come to Golden as a day trip.  Serious cyclists tackle the Lariat Loop Road up Lookout Mountain.  Mountain bikers love our mountain trails.  Learn more about cycling in Golden.


Golden has a water park, The Splash, which is open during summer months. The Golden Community Center offers swimming all year round, with separate pools for laps and leisure. Golden has an award-winner golf course, designed by Jim Engh. Fossil Trace is considered one the finest golf courses and golf experiences available in Denver and all of Colorado.
