Create and Manipulate Multiple Layers in Didger 2

To make organization easier, Didger 2 supports multiple layers. Each layer contains its own data, such as digitized points, polylines, or imported vector files. For example, if you import a contour map of your field area into Didger 2, the imported file is Layer 1. To import data files containing the locations of the producing oil wells and the dry and abandoned oil wells in your field area into Layers 2 and 3, respectively, follow the procedure outlined below.

1) Go to View | Layer Manager. Layer 1 is the layer containing the contour map of your field area.

2) Click on the New button. This will create Layer 2.

3) Select Layer 2 and click on the Set Current button to make it the active layer. Click OK.

4) Import the data file containing the producing oil well locations into the new layer by using the File | Import Data File command.

5) Select the appropriate Field Delimiter and Text Qualifier for your data in the Import Golden Software Data Files dialog box, and select which Fields contain the X and Y coordinates. Click Import.

6) Define the Import Options of your data and the symbol properties you want. Click OK.

7) Repeat steps 1-6 to create Layer 3 and import the data file for the dry and abandoned well locations.

The result is a map showing the contours of your field area and the locations of the producing oil wells and the dry and abandoned wells plotted on a single map. Other layer options available in the Layer Manager dialog box include:

1) the visibility of a layer. The current layer must always be visible (have a yellow sun shape under Visible). To change a layer from visible to invisible, simply click on the yellow sun shape to make it gray. For example, if you wanted to print a map of only the contours and the producing wells of your field area, you can make the layer containing the dry and abandoned wells invisible.

2) the ability to edit a layer. A red dot under the Editable signifies that you cannot edit that layer. You can edit a layer with a green dot under the Editable column. To change the color of the dot, simply click on it.

3) the position of a layer. You can move any layer up or down (above or below) any other layer. For example, if the layer containing the contours is above the layer containing the well locations, the resulting map will show that the contours will cross on top of the well symbols. To move the well symbols above the contour lines, simply move the well layer above the contour layer.

The abilities to create multiple layers, alter layers to be invisible or not editable, and to move the position of the layers are great new organizational features supported in Didger 2.
