The Principled Politician: The Story of Ralph Carr
This important biography tells the true story of the only political leader in the country to welcome Japanese-Americans to his state during World War II. Colorado Governor Ralph Carr was an unwilling candidate who catapulted to the top of the national Republican Party and was even pegged as a possible future presidential candidate by the New York papers. But when he took a courageous, yet unpopular, stance on the internment of Japanese-Americans, Carr fell rapidly from favor.

Adam Schrager covers politics for KUSA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Denver, Colorado. In more than 15 years in the business, he has won numerous broadcast journalism accolades, including more than a dozen Emmy awards. Come meet him at Clear Creek Books!  6:30pm.  12th and Washington.

  • Keep Your Good Days From Going Bad: Backcountry Safety with the Alpine Rescue Team
The Alpine Rescue Team begins a partnership with the Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum to present a safety series, with the first presentation focusing on “Backcountry Safety,” how a few strategic steps in planning can keep a good day from going bad or keep a day gone bad from turning into a really bad day.

Imagine being stranded in the backcountry of the Colorado mountains without appropriate overnight gear, tools, or food. What do you do? This class will teach you the basics of safety and how to ensure that you are prepared mentally and physically for a day or overnight in the mountains of Colorado.

The Alpine Rescue Team of Evergreen, Colorado, is a mountain search and rescue unit dedicated to saving lives through search, rescue, and mountain safety education. The Team is composed entirely of volunteers and is available upon request to help in mountain search and rescue problems anywhere, under the authority of local jurisdiction agencies. They participate in 80 to 100 field missions per year, generally divided equally between rescues and searches.

Tickets sales will benefit education development within the museum.  7:00pm.  $5.00.  Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum.  Inside the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th Street, Golden.
